Keel fixing - is soft filler normal

Hi friends. Our Hunter Legend 36, made in England, 2003, has soft infill at the leading and trailing edges where the keel nearly touches the hull. The infill is maybe 3" long, 1" high and the width of the keel. A surveyor said we should keep an eye on it and replace it if it deteriorated but should it not be all solid?

Hi,
I have a 356 from 2002 with the same "problem". I contacted a shipyard and was recommended to fill it with soft material. They recommended Sikaflex 291i. I've done it and it works well. The problem is called Hunter smile and you can find more information on the forum. And on my website (Projekt)

Thanks Patrik, this has given me confidence to sail away. I wonder why though that the spaces were left to be filled in.
