What I used

What I used where I replaced the keel on my 27 was Bondo's all purpose house fller. I contacted Bondo's tech support people on using thier product for this and they assured me it was waterproof and strong. The Bondo automotive filler will absorb water. Thier filler is nothing more than polyester resin with microbubbles and talc. I also found this filler was easier to sand and much, much less expensive than any marine filler. Also the boat has been back in the watyer for a year now and no flaking or cracking. I did overcoat the filler heavily with a barrier coat just for insurance. Check out my website and see how I did it.

Keel fairing

WEST SYSTEMS is the way to go. They have a great booklet Fiberglass Boat Repair & Maintence that addresses your repair among others. Don't know if the products are in BC. You can reach them @ Gougeon Brothers, Inc. (517)684-7286 FAX (517)684-1374. Good Luck.

Ugly keels

Going to be hauling my 25' later this month and my diver/bottom cleaner tells me that I have much rust. I am thinking of using the two-part semi-rigid fix-all(It's on the boat) that sets up white. I used it before on the hull of my first boat with good results. If interested I will get you the brand name. What are others suggesting? Good sailing!
