Keel Fairing Question

I have to fix some of the fairing that has chipped away from our lead keel. Purchase 3M Premium Filler however I just discovered that it is not to be used on lead. Not sure why so I now have to fine another product.

Any suggestions?

Ii have been happy with SYSTEM 3 on big areas and small chips i like West G-FLEX with a bit more milled glass mixed in to thicken

The big issue is allways a fillers underwater rating

Epoxy and microballoons will provide a surface that you can smooth easily. It should be sealed over with some sort of epoxycoat to keep it from absorbing water and coming off again next season.

I used West Marine's structural fiberglass filler on mine. It contains chopped FG strands. It is very strong, it does not part from the gaps you work it into, and it sands very well, so I have no complaints. West System epoxy is fine as well but will be much harder to sand using conventional methods. I do not know why anyone would NOT use the 3M 'blue' filler on lead-- that's been one of its primary applications in the production world for as long as that stuff's been on the market. I used the WM brand only because it's what I had and it was cheaper.
