Keel Draft

I am purchasing a 30ft Calatins with a draft of 5'3". Because of our shoal waters here is there a chance of cutting 1' off the keel and replacing the weight with a bulb? Does anyone know a ball park figure to have this done?

try pricing a wing keel and see if that would be most cost effective. in the catalina 30 association there is a book that can be purchased of modifications done to the cat. 30. i remember reading of a fellow that did just what you are wanting. he cut the bottom and used the lead that was removed to fabiricate a bulb that he fastened on. i think i would inquire about buying a wing keel and just bolt it on and sell the other keel. lead still brings a good price.
