I am in the process of restoring a 1975 Hunter 25. I have replaced all 8 threaded rods in the keel. I have also repaired the entire hull area around where the keel mounts to the hull. My question is, the boat just had washers on the inside under nuts that were half corroded away. I can't beleave there was no kind of additional structure for the hull to support the weight of the keel. I have read in past forums about keel brackets being rusted. Could someone describe or post a picture of the keel mounting area to show these supports. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email address is kchofmann@peoplepc.com. Thanks

Keel Brackets

I also have a 75 25 Hunter. When I got mine the keel brackets had the structural integrity of wet cardboard. I removed them and replaced them with steel brackets. This winter I will be replacing these with stainless. I don't have pictures, but if no one else can help you in the next couple of days, I'll try to find someone with a digital camera to take some.

Keell brackets (floors)

My '82 H25 is set up just the way you describe. However, there is a robust keel stub through which the bolts pass and the nuts and washers bear. It's now 20 years old and still tight; bilge is dusty dry and has been since I bought the boat in '82, except for a short while until I discovered that the bilge water was coming in through the cockpit-operated bilge pump, which the dealer had installed backward!
