keel bolts

I am restoring and modifying a mariner 19'. I have the keel off and have had it repaired by a boiler company, blasted and barrier coated and it is faired.
I have made new oak floor timbers to support the keel.

My question is this: where can i get 1/2" bolts with the kind of head shown in the Stewart marine site without paying 360.00 dollars?

Well, STUART Marine is probably your best bet, but try Rudy at D&R Marine (508) 644-3001 www.drmarine.com I know D&R doesn't list those bolts on their web site, but worth giving Rudy a call!
The really best place to get an answer to this is the US Mariner Association web site. I'm sure several owners of Mariners or Rhodes 19s have explored different sources for those bolts, of course they may tell you that your best choice is still Stuart.

Those look like just long stainless shoulder screws.....Not?

I don't have a Rhodes, but seeing that they are charging about $7 for a long lag screw, which is about $2 at Home Depot, I might try Grainger for the SS ones you need.

I have had great luck with boltdepot.com finding the bronze bolts needed for thru hulls that no one else carried.

Galvanized would be an option since it would likely be much cheaper. Using a grease or other protectant on the bolts would help protect them. Chief

I don't mind paying for stainless, but my concern is the Stewart marine bolts have a lot of meat on the heads to support the load, which is very specialized. I could use a counter sink head but I am not confident that enough meat will be present to support the torque of the 450 lb keel. Thoughts?

You keep refering to bolts from "Stewart Marine", do you really mean "STUART MARINE" the present builder of the Mariner and Rhodes 19, or is this a different company? If you do mean Stuart, then they should be pretty knowledgeable about what is needed and it may be that their bolts are the best to go with. I'd still suggest giving Rudy at D&R a call (508) 644-3001 even if he ends up saying call Stuart.

Admittedly, STUART MARINE is known for thinking that their replacement parts are "solid gold" and priced accordingly........ oops! did I just type that?? <GRIN!>

Yes I mean Stuart. Will call D&R. for 360.00 for a set of 8 keel bolts they should at least be gold plated.
