One way to do it...
They WILL come lose (regardless of torque considerations) if you exceed 5 or 6 knots in coastal waters for any longer period of time. My friend (h34 owner as well) had to work his bolts at least once every three or four weeks during an Atlantic crossing two years ago. I never have to touch mine unless I head into the ocean. It really depends on sea conditions and speed. My rule of thumb was "the tighter the better), I know this sounds scary, but I've tried torque settings, it's all the same. Christof

Call Hunter Cust Service Department
The Hunter Customer Service Dept can give you the torque. In the meantime, for comparison, the "small" nuts on our H-35 is something like 225 ft-lbs (??) and the "large" nuts are 400 ft-lbs. Had to make up special sockets - cut them in half and weld a section of pipe in between the halves. Used 3/4-inch drive.

Crack at joint between keel and hull
Have a 1985 Hunter 34 for a year and a half. I have never tightened the bolts. There is a crack between the hull and the keel. Last year when I hauled the boat I had the crack filled and painted. The crack returned immediately after a month. Does your boat have a seperation or crack at the above mentioned place or do you know if any one else does? Happy sailing!
