Rec'd my 2003 Cat18 last nite. Noticed she had a keel bilge (presuming cuz she has a built in hand operated pump....oem). Has anyone installed a garboard plug in the keel to drain ALL bilge water before freezing? Or is this overkill/unnecessary?

I installed one on my old boat (not a Catalina)

Thx

I don't know about the Cat 18, but lots of Mariner 19 owners do that. As long as it's securely in place when you launch, it could be very convenient.

I know this is an old Post, but question: what is a garboard plug?
I have water between the halves of my C22 (inner and outer) I can't drain it without drilling or something.
any ideas?

On a traditional wooden boat, the garboards are the first planks laid against the keel as you plank the skin out to the chine. So, a garboard plug would be a drain plug in the area immediately to one side or the other of the keel line. The lowest point in the bilge, not in the centerline.
