It appears there is a critical information mass forming at Crag's List, both New Orleans and Jackson, MS editions. If you are seeking or offering housing or help, or looking for lost family/friends, try these links: http://neworleans.craigslist.org/ http://jackson.craigslist.com For those curious about what's going on in the city, this is an amazing blog being posted by directnic.com, an ISP in New Orleans. Some of their staff chose to stay behind. They also have video feed of their downtown block. http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/ And it goes without saying that any and all of our message boards or other resources can be used for anything related to this tragedy.

Help

I've been considering sharing my home with a displaced family in need. I hear they are shipping the people from the Superdome to the Astrodome in Houston. I only have one bedroom and an office that I can empty for a family but it's gotta be a lot better then the Astrodome. I'm a little worried about the risk I would be taking but sometimes you just gotta put that aside and take a risk. The only problem, I'm sure those people aren't on the internet and I don't know how to offer it to them or who to offer to.

Thinking same as you, Franklin..

I have two spare bedrooms and a bath I'd offer to someone who could travel to Little Rock--and I'm in a good school district...but like you, I'd want to know something about anyone I'd take into my home. Maybe some of you know people who aren't desitute--perhaps left ahead of the storm and have been staying in a hotel inland, but now have nothing left to go back to and need a home and some sense of "normalcy" for a few months while they try to recover emotionally and sort out where their lives are going from here. And I'd bet Franklin and I aren't the only ones who'd open our homes, if we just knew how to do it.

One of those links

Has a link to a MoveON.org web site that you fill out to submit an offer. The contact is direct if you want or through them if you want. I called my roommate that I took on a few months ago to make sure he was ok with it. At first he said he justed needed some time to secure his personal items. Now he says he's not comfortable with the idea. It kind of pisses me off and I'm thinking of kicking his a__ out...but then again...I need money bad and he pays rent on time each month. I guess a long weekend of sailing in the Gulf (thunderstorms or no thunderstorms) should give me plenty of time to figure out what to do.
