I am looking to install an arch on my B49. The Kato Marine arch appears to be well engineered and popular arch. Does any one have any experience or thoughts about an arch? Did you install it yourself? How much does your dinghy weigh? Thanks.

Alternative to Kato Marine Arch

I had planned on a Kato arch for my B46. A couple of weeks ago I was at Winters Marina in Riverside and Glen showed me a new Jenneau 53 that they had fitted with a polished aluminum arch from Atlantic Towers. It was nicely done and looked great. I checked the installation and visited the website:

http://www.atlantictowers.com/

I e-mailed them and got a prompt reply from Shelley. She told me the Jenneau was fitted with their "Tower in a Box" sailboat arch.

I fired off a bunch of questions about weight, capacity, the lifespan of the aluminum vs. stainless and a few others. Shelley responded to each and I went with it.

At $2,500 plus $550 for installation it is far less than a Kato arch. Fabrication time is about 2 1/2 weeks. Mine should be delivered about April 2nd or so.

Re: Alternative to Kato Marine Arch

Thanks for the quick response. My boat is also at Winters. Is the Jenneau at Winters now? What was the wieght limitation? Did you get any accessory mounts? Did you need to use the davit extensions?

Yes - the Jenneau was splashed this week. I watched them step the mast on Wednesday. Glen is delivering it to Maine. Not sure when though . . .

I specifically asked about the weight limitation. I told Shelley I wanted to hang my dinghy from below & mount solar panels atop the arch. She said not a problem.

No accessory mounts. Nor did I buy the davit extensions. Yet. I will probably end up getting them after I see how the arch fits. I won't be taking my dinghy down the river in April, and the extensions are bolted on after the fact anyway. I will be mounting a separate VHF antena for the AIS unit I purchased this winter.

I've also got a Beneteau 46. How did this arch work out for you? Any problems?
