I was on the roof of an office building in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday (working, sadly) when I happened to spy this suprising sight! It seems that she is berthed on the Christina River, leading out to the Delaware River.

This replica is based on the original Kalmar Nyckel which has a storied history in these parts ... http://www.kalmarnyckel.org/aboutship.asp

I always get a kick out of seeing these ships!

Welcome to Delaware, Scott.
It seems we were the toehold of the Swedes in the New World. Soon to be overrun be the other Europeans.
Those photos bring back some memories. Some of the material she is planked with came through my shop. The Courbaril/South American Locust was pretty tough. She should last a very long time. I made some parrell beads & sheave pins out of purpleheart, and the whipstaff pivot in white oak as well.
I looked in on her under winter wraps this year. She seems to be well tended by the volunteers.

one of my club members crews on the 'Nyckel and was aboard her when you saw her returning from New England waters. She does frequent tours and takes visitors out on them. Check her schedule on line and maybe you'll be able to catch one that fits in your work schedule.
