Hello, Thanks for answers to date, I built power boats and sailed dinghies, this being my first lead sled (with sails), mostly affirming what I assume... Next question, I just finnished machining an aluminum interface plate allowing me to rehang my 4 stroke on a properly rated mount, onto the factory transom wedge, new mount wider than wedge... How did 'they' fasten that wedge, before I go into it myself, are all four holes thru bolted, cause my upper holes on the too small mount look like hex lags, but they could be 'threaded' and thru to the transom core, any ideas... One way or the other I have to re-hang the beast, so whatever I encounter I will deal with, just curious, perhaps someone has done same and seen what corners had been cut at the factory, 1977 Oday 22... Again, thanks in advance, I am on a 'make it safe and reliable, and decorate it later kick, an ex-boatbuilder no longer doing it for 'the man'... Am I making any sense... I can post a photo of this thing before I '5200 it onto the boat... Burp... Cheers... SH.

Sean - I used to think the only dumb question was the one that went unasked - then I started my current job as a young lawyer and learned that there are some truly dumb questions! Your's just don't happen to fit that category - yet.
The short version to this answer is I don't know. Given O'day's generally solid build standards I'd expect to find bolts and nuts. The issue may be that they could be glassed into the boat before its completed. The mount may also not be factory. How's that for a usless answer? I assume you've tried to get to the inside of the mounting? Without sucess? The next thing I'd so is pull the lags/screws and see what happens. Whatever you find I would bolt the new mount on. There are good stainless toggles available at good marine supply houses to let you do it blind - but since you've built the things you probably know that. Post the picture!
