New here, about to enter the golden years of my life. Been a rough 50 years, always dreamed about sailing the Caribbean and working my way to the pacific. I’m in the process of purchasing a new to me sailing vessel and I’m thinking I screwed up using a private seller rather than a broker. All the info is in my bio. But anyway I just wanted to say hi and hope to see you out there enjoying what the seas have to offer.
Welcome aboard. I read your bio. Sounds like you really the Pearson 30-footer or so, but are in the process of b a larger Beneteau. Hope things get straightened out with the sellers paper work…don’t pass on the cash without the paperwork…that could be trouble. I sold and bought 2 boats privately. No significant issues with either one, so it can be done. If the seller isnt playing ball, walk away and look for the Pearson!
Some great resources here on SBO.
I hope your “7-8 good years left” is wrong. I am 61 and still sailing and making a fool of my self. Just today I climbed a tree in my back yard to practice going up my mast single-handed ;-). I sail a 1988 O’Day 322. She is my second boat…first one was a 1996 Hunter 280. After sailing for 12 or so years, I am ready for a bigger boat, but since I sail single-handed most of the time, my O’Day 322 is paid for, and I like the cabin a lot, I may just stick with what I have…I am looking to get a new head sail this winter and if it lasts 10-15 years, I may be ready to hang up my Top Siders
In the meantime, I try to stay “young at heart”, sail whenever I can (but still working), and go somewhere warm when the water gets hard on Lake Michigan (at least for a few weeks).
Cheers,
Greg
