Some people drive their boats like they drive their cars.... No surprise this idiot tried to run under the bridge. I hope his crew gave him a good beating for being so ignorant of their safety.

What a dope. I think he knew there was going to be a problem. The helmsman seems to duck before hitting the bridge. And it appears he never warns the woman standing at the companionway or she was just slow.

We are all dumping on these two boat operators. It is clear the bridge is coming down. Maybe there was a problem with the bridge controls.

Gotta disagree Tim. True, the bridge is coming down but it's coming down slowly, everybody can see it and Kapitan Dumkopf is trying to outrun it.

Believe it or not, I've seen the same thing right here in Long Beach except to outdo this guy, it involved a stationary bridge.

The bridge operators at Kent Narrows sound a prolonged blast on their whistle before they start to close the bridge. I'll bet this skipper also runs red lights.

Hrm....If you are in a hurry a sailboat is not the boat for you. Leave the go fast stuff for people in powerboats that have more fuel than brains!

This looks like the typical person on the road trying to beat out a red light only to T bone a car after the light has turned.

Until we go back 50 years and see everyone behaving with courtesy and stop worrying so much about yourself in front of others things like this will continue.

Anyone care to give the helmsman a Darwin Award?

We always assume the operator is at error. I am not so sure and wish there was some more info. I watched this several times and in the first few frames when you see the bridge it does not appear to be moving. I find it hard to believe 2 boats would be trying to go under a closing bridge. my guess is the bridge operator started closing too soon and it is a small fast closing bridge and just caught the boat. Both boats seem to be moving fast so maybe they were trying to beat a timed closing but the bridge operator was staying on schedule. Would love to learn the facts, till then I am not going to be so fast to condemn the boat captain. Nothing is ever as it seems on the internet is it?
