This is the second boat I've installed a PSS on and this time I took a few pics. This one is called removing the coupling. To do this I purchased four three inch 3/8 bolts. Once I had separated the coupling from the tranny I put a 13mm deep drive socket between the 1 inch shaft and the tranny flange and tightend the bolts. Of course I also used a liberal amount of PB Blaster as my penetrating oil. Never use WD40 it is NOT a good penetrating oil! To make it easier I also used my electric impact wrench to draw the bolts together.

I lifted the engine out of the way

when I installed the new shaft and coupling. I like to have lots of working room. Mine has been is service now for six years and the only attention it gets is in the spring when I "burp" it to make sure that the water has gotten all the way to the seal.

They don't make the "burp" model anymore

It's what I had on my last boat and occasionally it would run dry, get hot and make a high pitched whine until I burped it. They now ship all models with the barb fitting to prevent having to burp. I ran a 3/8 hose above the water line and it vents the air out of the seal automatically so no more burping and no chance of running dry..

Cool!

No pun intended. Mine runs pretty slow, less than 1000 rpm.
