Sails are a bit dirty and tattered. Any experience with getting them refurbed? Anybody replaced all three sails, what does it cost?

What I boat! Can't wait to put her to sea.

Congrats to both of you. Fine boats. Ours is a '79 Hull #36.

I bet your sailmaker knows what new sails cost. I'd also bet that you won't like the numbers. Try Beacon Sails or atlantic sail trader for used sails.

Congrats from hull #074! Ladylove suggests you examine the sails carefully. If they seem sound then you could have them refurbished or just cleaned at Sailcare(http://www.sailcare.com/). I am still using the original staysail. I'll send it to Sailcare this fall. My main and yankee set me back almost $4000.

Welcome from hull # 42, Midnight Sun. As the original owner, (bought the boat in November 1978) I can tell you that you have a fine boat. Some cheap things Hunter did will have to be corrected, but the boat is a great design, and extremely seaworthy. This forum is a very valuable resource. The various owners represent decades of experience.

My 37C is at Seabrook Marina. Just traded a 40' trawler. Brought her back from Palacous

Keel

Spent all day at Drifter and took off work tomorrow to do the same.
Been sanding and grinding on the hull. The keel has some small damage to the lead.
It looks like you took your finger tips and drug it through the icing on a cake. See pic.
Anyway,
1. Does the keel need to be encapsulated in something like fiberglass or ??? or can I put the bottom paint directly on the lead?
2. How smooth does the lead have to be? Can I fill it in as best as I can with some West sytem epoxy?

Hope everyone had a good weekend!
Rick

The Interlux booklet(and probably their website) has a good discussion of fairing the keel. I just did mine. Then four coats of barrier-coat before applying the anti-fouling. In 1999 I barrier-coated the bottom but neglected to do the keel. This spring I had the keel soda blasted to take all the old anti-fouling off. Yours looks to be almost ready for the fairing. And the West System booklet describes that process in detail.
