Not too much of a mess, but in the process I tried a hand pump and a pump powered by a power drill. The drill pump couldn't draw enough vacuum to extract the oil at all. The hand pump did a fine job however. Process went fine, but in order to avoid any oil drips, mess and spillage while working with my milk jugs and the pumps and hoses, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the "LiquiVac Oil Change System" -- a small green container with a hand pump built into it, for sucking the oil out through the dipstick. Seems like it would be quick, clean and immensely easy.

Any experience with this product or some other affordable oil change kit? This time I went through the dipstick, however next season I'll add Don Moyer's oil change kit ("The kit includes a pick-up tube that installs into the 3/4" pipe-threaded hole directly under the carburetor.") and some sort of pump.

Going to try the liquivac pump

While I do like gadgets and the idea of adding an electric fuel pump, with my lack of room in my engine compartment I will go with the Liquivac pump and Moyer marines kit for sucking from the bottom of the oil pan. Will be done the next oil change in about 6 months or so.

I'll update my impressions of the pump in time for Christmas shopping season. :)

thanks to all for the input, it helped me think about what would work In my boat.

Would be great if the Yanmar 2GM had a drain hose as depicted in the video. You have to suck the oil out via the dipstick tube. This involves putting a copper tubing into the dipstick hole that extends to the bottom of the oil pan and attaching the suction hose to the other end of the tube. This was a pretty miserable braille type operation until I discovered that Hunter considerately put an access a door under the sink to get at the dipstick side of the engine.
