Since Phil, aka Nice & easy decided to

rag us about being in the land of stiff water. I think there is a remedy. On saturday evening about the time when the sun goes down he sails into a time warp. When he emerges at daybreak nothing appears familar to him. He turns on his trusty GPS and it tells him that he is located at N49 53 an W97 10. Now the question , What is the water temperature?

No Florida Hurricanes or Snow

the Weather is great here year round, except for the ocassional hurricane. At least we have not been hit in the last 2 years. Yes we sail year round but our insurance is 2x what yours isa in the north. Everything has a price. Waterfront here could go for 15 million and acre. Pretty pricey. Having lived up in Illionis and New England many years this year around warm weather is a real blessing.

Hey Ross

49N x 97W Seems to be around Winnipeg. Don't have a chart for that far north,so not sure if there is a lake there or not, but if so I don't need a thermometer to tell me it's damn cold, and more than likely pretty hard. Although I have made a couple of east coast trips past two years, by basic rule these days is to stay south of I 10. When I heard the weather forecast for this weekend I just couldn't resist a jab at you guys farther north. But I do know about that cold and the snow. As a boy growing up we lived up in central Illinois, so I do know about all the pleasures of shoveling snow, sledding, and freezing my buns off. I would like once more to invite any and all to come this way the week after Christmas for out little Gulf Coast get together. You will be made welcome and treated with true southern hospitality.

me too...

Krickey... I don't know how you southern dudes do it, unless you are evading Uncle Sam at my expense! My boat is out of the water 6 months a year... and my house is still falling into the ground. Work on house... work on boat? Boat gets the nod. Nice and Easy... Not working on the house I am sure... must have a condo... or are filthy rich. Fair Winds...

Lake Winnipet

I dont't have a map or a chart with enough detail to show the lake Ross, and don't intend to have one either. As I stated earlier, I try not to venture much north of I 10, which is approx 31N. Chuck, I just got back here last Sunday, and wasn't on the boat. Didn't notice any fog here. Now is a good time of year for it though. Hopefully I am sailing some this weekend. Weather is supposed to be very good. Which marina are you in. Not sure where I am going, or what boat I am going to sail. Have a guy coming over to look at the singed S2, so we may take it out. But I will manage to get out on the Lake. I hear the Hwy.90 bridge is near completion, so should be able to get out of here without any detours soon.

I live near there

I live 2 hours west by road from Winnipeg and my daughter lives there. Yes the temperature is cold. We convert our temps to Celcius in a plot to confuse Americans :) Today it was 16 below, which translates to about 0 for folks south of the 49th parallel. There is a foot of snow outside, and I have shovelled a few times already. As for the water, there is no water outside; it has all converted itself to hard stuff! Are we happy... well I'll let the following prose convey our feelings: “Oct. 14 - Manitoba is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are turning all different colors - you should see the beautiful shades of red and orange and yellow! Went for a ride through some beautiful rolling hills and spotted some deer. They are so graceful, certainly they are the most peaceful animals on earth. This must be Paradise I love it here! Nov. 3 - Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such an elegant creature, the very symbol of peace and tranquility. Hope it will snow soon. I love it here! Dec. 2 - It snowed last night! Woke up to find everything blanketed in white, just like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won) and when the snowplow came by, we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Mother nature in perfect harmony. I love Manitoba! Dec. 12 - More snow last night. I love it. The snowplow did his trick again (that rascal) and pushed all the snow back into the driveway, but we bundled up and had a good time clearing it - and we made a snowman out of it! A winter wonderland I love it here! Dec. 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work on time! I'm exhausted from shoveling. That damn snowplow! Dec. 22 - More of that white crap fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think the snowplow man hides around the corner and waits until I'm done shoveling this driveway, the jerk! And you should see our heating bills! Dec. 25 - "White Christmas" my busted ass! More friggin snow. If I ever get my hands on that son of a bitch who drives that snowplow, I swear I'll break the bastard's nose. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt this friggin ICE! Dec. 28 - More white sh*t last night. Been inside since Christmas Day except for shoveling out the driveway every time "Snowplow Harry" comes by. Can't go anywhere, car's buried in a mountain of frozen snow. The weatherman says to expect another 10" of the sh*t tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10" is? Jan. 1 - Happy Damn New Year, the weatherman was wrong AGAIN. We got two feet of the white sh*t this time. At this rate it won't melt before the Fourth of July. The snowplow got stuck up the road, and the jerk had the balls to come to the door and ask to borrow my shovel. After I told him I've broken six shovels already, shoveling all the sh*t he pushed into the driveway, I broke my last one over his damn head! Jan. 8 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on the way back, a damn deer ran in front of the car and I hit the bastard. Did about $3,000 worth of damage to the car. Those damn beasts ought to be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them all last November. Mar. 22 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rotting out from all that damn salt they keep dumping all over the road? Car looks like a piece of sh*t! April. 10 - Moved back to Florida. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever want to live in that God forsaken province of Manitoba!”

Ice Boat

You haven't sailed, Nice and Easy, until you've hit forty knots in an ice-boat. I could make that island of yours in less than two hours. Makes a nice change from my meagre 6 - 7 knots sailing in summer.

florida update

I dont know where these transplanted yankees get there weather reports here. Im a native floridian. So i feel is should update everyone. The weather here is miserable. Mosquitos are really awaful, 3 pounds each, The Snakes are having a great time, we have had a drought for years and everything is burning up in the sun so the gators and snakes have moved to town. Red tide has turned the waterways to pools of dead fish. the global warming will soon cause a rise in water and flood the coast so there wont be any marinas. or coastal houses left before long. All the best cruising spots are full of the wayward alligators and the sharks have moved in to eat the dead fish. So many new residents from mexico that its hard to get anything to eat except taco's. It is so hot you can fry eggs on the sidewalks and no rain predicted. Oh did i mention the 40 Hurricanes predicted for the next year... So maybe the snow is a good thing.

Ed, You Forgot the Gators

They eat all the pets around and any golfers who get too close to a water hazard. I'm headed off to Disney today as well just as soon as my wife and daughter stuff their suitcases to the bursting point.

Well, you guys in Fl aren't the only ones who

have it rough. Here in Dallas yesterday, I rode my Goldwing, wearing a short sleeve shirt, over to my buddy's house and we went out to sail his Catalina 22. It was 80 degrees F. and the wind was out of the SSE at 15 - 20 mph. ..............Gosh, that was rough!! And here we were looking forward to developing wrinkles in the sails and mildew on the deck. Last week we had had to endure a major cold snap where the temp dropped clear down into the high 30's for nearly two days before rebounding to these conditions. It's even lessened the spider activity on board, so now we don't even get to do that fabulous "web dusting" when we get aboard. The really bad news is that the conditions are supposed to be the same today and through the weekend. It seems we're stuck with 80 degrees and that "awful" 15 mph wind. ................Oh! Whatever will I do?
