Hey folks,

Just picked up a 1983 Hunter 20. Am trying to find some other owners who can share their thoughts on this model. She is no racer but roomy for her size and the reviews I have read so far suggest she is forgiving. I plan to camp on her with my two boys. I think it is a good boat for someone with limited hours on the water under sail. Thanks and hope there are a few Hunter 20 owners out there that read this.. Morgan

I'd guess costs/profit

In the early 90s I seriously looked at both boats. I don't recall the prices but the prices of the two boats were closer than the size difference would indicate. I wanted a 19, but for 'a little bit more' I could buy the 23.5. If a person financed the boat purchase, the monthly payments between the two were close enough to step up to the 23.5. BTW, I ended up buying a H23 (wing keel). The owner was moving and couldn't take the boat so he priced it for a 'quick sale'. I kept that boat for 4 years.

'Crazy Dave' could answer better than I, but I'd guess the manufacturing costs of the H19 were at least 90% of the 23.5.

IIRC, only 600 or so 19s were built and a few thousand or the 23.5 (240)s were biult.

The 19 is a sweet boat.
