I have just settled to buy an older 34 and have a few projects to work on. 1. I understand the water tanks are in the keels - is there a reasonable way to access them? 2. 31 years old and it has a few large cracks in the gelcoat - what is the best way to eliminate them? 3. I would like to upgrade the countertops with Corian - anyone taken theirs out? Some hints on how to do this? thanks, Ed

About repairs

Can't help with #1 Boatworks a magazine published by Sail magazine ran a series in the last year on fiberglass repairs which covered cracks in the gelcoat. If your local library doesn't have Boatworks, you might do a google search for the contact info to find out if you can buy past editions. Corian very heavy for a boat which doesn't like to carry a big load? Good luck.

Boatworks

Thanks for the lead on Boatworks - found the web site. I know that I can get Corian thin and I don't think there will be a large weight penalty once I remove the Formica and presumably plywood under it. At least, that is the plan.

Snowgoose water tanks

Have you checked under all the floor boards; it will amaze me if there's not an access hatch somewhere. I haven't inspected a Snowgoose, but other Prouts have them. I put a 100 gallon tank between the hulls on mine; in the storage forward of the main salon; it is much easier to access, and we use the tanks in the hulls for long-term storage of canned goods, supplies, etc. that we don't access regularly. Snowgoose 34 water tanks

On our Snowgoose 34 we could lift up the sole at the forward end of the galley and forward end of the nav station. There was an inspection cap for each tank. If you don't have on you can cut a hole in the tank and add one. Tex Hill

Volvo diesel

Thanks - will look for the access ports. This boat has a 2 cyl Volvo diesel. PO says it is a MD2, I found some paperwork saying MD 11C. How can I tell exactly what it is? It has the Volvo out drive as well. Ed

Volvo Diesel

It's an MD2. Parts are scarce and expensive. Does it run? Where is it? Problems? Does have the belt drive starter/generator combo or separate units?
