OK, so I just had our Dan Buoy inflatable MOB inflate at the dock after a squall passed. The good news is that it still worked from a 2013 purchase. The bad news is that I clearly should have replaced the bobbin years ago. Obviously, they deteriorate over time. When I raced, I checked all the equipment every year. I have become lax, and have no seasonal reminder. I do for engine service, etc, but not for the MOB and PFD's. I will in the future!

yep, most bobbins recommend being replaced after only three years. Some instructions say 3-6 years.
