Masking tape seems to be ideal for capturing these tiny but painful splinters.

That goes for all sorts of undesirables on many surfaces. Pet hair, our own hair, and especially sand. By extension, get a lint roller. It's extra sticky & pre-wrapped inside out. (This is apparently something women discover long before men.) I used one to extract sand from a berth cushion last week. Pound & roll, pound & roll.

Or a damp mop.

With a damp mop there is danger to your hands when you wring the mop. Unless you plan to make it a one time use.

When I was in the PI there was a native tribe of pigmies that never worn shoes and they did walk on broken glass without taking and notice.

Used to have a girlfriend that went barefoot year round, the only time she wore shoes was at work, shopping, or in restaurants. The rest of the time she went barefoot. We used to go sledding in the winter (something I still enjoy at 50!) and she'd leave her shoes in the car, sometimes she'd wear a pair of sock, but most often it was barefoot. Only time I made her wear shoes was when we went somewhere on the motorcycle.
