Amen to that. I keep hitting junk on my screen and it keeps coming anyway.
Anyone good at viruses? Maybe we can get somebody to crash their system!

There is a relatively simple fix to control spam postings on your site that the moderator
can use. First change the preference that gives new members the ability to post without
being moderated (prior approval). Then go through the message archives and determine
who the spammers are. Now go into the members directory and delete the spammers'
memberships. Any new members' messages can now be viewed by the moderator prior to
posting and, if a spammer is discovered, that membership can be terminated before any
damage is done. Legitimite postings can be approved, and individual membership
preferences can be restored to unmoderated posting. I hope this helps -

I'm the group owner/moderator.
Sorry that I didn't catch the recent spam before the repeated postings,
but it was unavoidable. In the past I've routinely banned spammers from
the group after receipt of their first spam messages. However, the ISP
I've been using, Verizon, has an excessively strict spam filter in
place. It's happy to randomly stop legitimate email from such sites as
the Wall Street Journal and PCWorld, to which I subscribe for various
newsletters. It also stops me from receiving obvious spam but, for the
first time that I'm aware of, did not send me the recent spam that was
sent to the Albin Vega mail list. So, I never received it and was
unaware of and unable to stop the spam spate.
I'll institute a number of fixes. First, I've changed my group email
address from Verizon to Gmail to see what happens with its spam filter.
Second, I've adopted Robert's suggestion (thanks, Robert!) to moderate
new members' postings to require prior approval. Third, if there are
any members who'd like to volunteer as moderators, please send me an
email either to the group or directly to the new email address I'm using
for the group, tdhamill@....
Hopefully, these fixes will eliminate the recent problems. But there's
still a low chance that moderators may be unable to catch all spam
because our spam filters stop us from receiving the offending messages.
So, if you receive spam from the Group, let us know. But please don't
bother to reply to the spammer via the group or to quote the original
spam. I'm pretty certain any response goes unread by the spammer;
confuses those group members with effective spam filters who may not
have seen the original spam; and, by quoting the spam, repeats the
offense of the original message.
I'll take the occasion of this message to thank the membership for the
creation and maintenance of an excellent repository of truly useful
information about the Vega. Compared to other email groups that I've
belonged to, this one is remarkable for the overall consistency of its
message value, the courtesy of email and the lack of flame wars. My
sincere thanks to all of you.
