Just found out I can take off the week of july fourth and was wondering what ideas anyone has. I was thinking about trailoring up to chesapeake bay and checking out some fireworks...or maybe a lake closer by with some good sailing/fireworks. Anywhere in the mid/south east is possible. Anyone have an event to reccomend? Thanks, Richard

Richard, I have friends that trailer down

to Washington to watch the fireworks from the tidal basin. It seems to be much worth the effort.

Burlington

Although it's a long way from NC, Burlington, Vt has one of the best fireworks shows in the NE, on the waterfront of Lake Champlain, thousands of boaters enjoy ths event every year, 3 great bays to choose from for anchoring, anyone in the area should definitly plan to attend..........if it stops raining!

Take your pic on the bay

Fireworks everywhere on varied nights. Depending on what size/speed boat you have, and the weather, you can make almost a constant stream of them Sat - Tues. But ramps with overnight potential are hard to find in these parts. And crowds are a real factor. You might enjoy the relative quiet of the Pamlico better...;) Oh yeah, if you want to head to DC, go early, very early, pick aspot, defend it with your life, and plan to stay there overnight. That place is like a Walmart parking lot on Christmas eve before and after the fireworks. Half the folks are drunk, half are idiots, and where those two groups overlap someone always winds up in trouble.

I agree with Ross that the firework at the mall is great and sometimes last for 45 minutes. But I recommend going to the Chesapeake bay.Last year we took the boat near Thomas Point ( 38.90 N 76.44 W) and we had a great "nautical" firework experience .We could see the fireworks from Annapolis ,Baltimore,Edgewater ,St Michael, plus the dozens of little ones coming from people living on the Bay.We plan to do it again this year, weather permitting. Happy Fourth Phil

Fireworks tonight ...

Enjoy the weeekend everyone! I'm leaving the office in few minutes ... we'll be on the boat and visiting friends on Halsey Island to watch fireworks off the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club tonight (it's not a big show - but an amazing number of boats will be out!) It's the first rain-free day in a week (hopefully)!
