Auh, Dave.

The Brits invented the magnetron during WW ll. Top Secret stuff. It was shipped to the U.S and refined into a combat weapon during the war and developed into what we use today. It won WW ll. And the defeat of it (stealth) brought down the Soviet Union. The microwave oven came about because a chocolate bar melted. It was in the inventors pants pocket. That was after the war as I recall.

The antenna array is 24" wide. To see how it works, hold a finger in front of your nose. You can see everything beyond it. Besides, radar won't see closer than the 'donut' anyway. That's about 30 feet or more. The seagull preventer you see, blew away in a storm last year. But the culprit birds have not returned. They learned their lesson.:)

Fred did I mention RADAR?

I thought I said magnetron. The magnetron is a tube and not a radar unit. A Scott named Sir Robert Alexander Watson-Watt invented the first practial radar, but before that a German was playing around with it also. Pleas do a web search on the names I have given you. I am starting to become a fan of Moody's Fair WInds Cap'n Dave

I wrote the Article

I wrote the Article and carried out the test of available makes for the PBO magazine referred to by RSN48. We did it on my 376 Autumn Legend. Also I was privileged to have Watson-Watt's co-engineer as my University lecturer. His name was Alexander Mackay. It all seems a long time ago though.

WoW!!! I met Mackay

At Bell Labs while I was working there. We were doing some work on phase aray at the time. Japan did not have working radar until June of 1943. While the UK was using it Before Germany gave up the ghost. JRC might be referring to Yagi who invented the highly directional antenna and was working for JRC at the time. Fair Winds Cap'n Dave
