Joker Valve on OC381

I'm getting a blackflow through the joker valve back to the bowl on the head in my Beneteau OC 381. Replacing the valve works for only a couple of weeks or so. Taking a look at the fitting it appears that the outlet hose is pulling the fitting downward and possibly distorting the fit of the joker valve causing the leak. Does this sould plausible. As noted by other commentaries, the tank is located at least 2-3 feet above the level of the bottom of the bowl. Relocation of either the bowl or the tank is out of the question. Any ideas other than shiting the tank to overboard disrcharge and closing the outlet valve between uses?

Check the vent line from the holding tank if this line is blocked or restricted (also check to see if there is an isolating valve in the vent line it -valve must be open and clear)if this line is restricted it will cause a build up of pressure in holding tank and force waste back to the bowl

I met a 373 owner in Jersey City last week who has the same Jabsco head pump as I, and I think you do. He had the same problem as we do and when he attempted to buy replacement joker valve from Beneteau, they told him about the new Jabsco replacement pump with a completely redesigned valve. He replaced his and hasn't had a problem since. I'm researching the replacement now.

Hey FScott please post any information that you may find as I've had the same problem for years and new joker valves don't seem to work for very long.

In addition to the choker valve (joker valve), there is a "base valve gasket" that allows backflow into the bowl. See the diagram here.

Solution to leaking joker valve on Jabsco pumps

I replaced my manual Jabsco pump with the new pump, Jabsco p/n 29040-3000 and my problem is finally fixed. West Marine has it for $105, but I bought 2 of them from Bacon Associates in Annapolis for $80 each. What a difference in how easily it works and no backflow! The box also has label saying Upgrade your old manual with the new 3000 series pump. Contact Gavin @ Bacon & Associates 410-263-1656.
