Johnson Pump Part Numbers

I need to get a spare pump for my generator. The part that I need is 10-24569-09, but I've found a good deal on a 10-24569-09E. I've looked all over to try to figure out what the "E" means, but I can't find anything that describes it. Does anyone know what the difference is?

I think the only diff is that the "E" designation is for OEM Pump and without is General Purpose.

I've looked at that PDF diagram and found nothing that mentioned the "E" designation. So are you saying that the pumps are identical and that the only difference is the "E"?

I did a search in the Johnson pump manual, and did not find anything with an "E". The base pump was listed (see attachment), and it has the breakdown of all the internal part numbers, but no E.

Just as an aside, I did a Google search for 10-24569-09E and found this thread indexed less than 1 hour from when I first posted it. Amazing!

First off, thanks to everyone who replied.

Next, here's the answer that I finally got: The "09E" has a mechanical seal instead of a lip seal, so the housing is slightly larger. That is the difference: "09" lip seal & "09E" mechanical seal.

Now, can anyone explain the difference between a lip seal and a mechanical seal and why I would want one over the other?

Lip seal is a stationary elastomer lip that contacts the rotating drive shaft.. A mechanical seal has a rotating flat face attached to the rotating shaft and a stationary flat face attached to the housing .. Like the Pss dripless propeller shaft seal on some sailboats.. Mechanical seal generally lasts a lot longer and typically does not wear a groove in the rotating drive shaft of the engine or pump..
