Now have 1984 Sailmaster outboard and I would like to test run before putting away until next spring.
Have no manual for it, so I have to ask:
There are two electrical wires coming from the front of the engine. Though it is pull-start, do these two wires need to connect to a 12v source? As an On-Off switch, maybe?
Does this mean it has electronic ignition? If yes, a motorcycle battery with full charge should work?
thanks for the help.

Alternator? Run the motor and measure for voltage/amps off the wires. It's used to provide a trickle charge to your battery.

Yup.. a little alternator that can make about 6 amperes at almost full throttle.. Ignition works without external power. Insulate the wire ends from the alternator if not using so as to not damage the rectifier..
