I am contemplating buying a 30ft. 1976 Northstar 1000 in excellent condition with many updates. It comes with a Atomic 4 gas engine and a V-Drive 5103 for $14, 000.00. It includes a 3-wheel axel fifth wheel trailer.
I would really appreciate comments on the boat and motor or anything else.

The builder is Hughes from Ontario, Canada and they do have a good reputation. It is an S&S design which needs no comment. The A4 is a fine engine for a boat in this size range. One does have to keep up on A4 electrical maintenance - plugs, wires, points, oil changes, etc. It is, as the aforementioned is adhered to, a very reliable engine. One does need to be vigilant about gas fumes which requires your nose in the engine compartment, but it would be quite rare to discover a fume problem, but it is worth checking none the less.
