When others jiffy reef do you also tie the main sail down at the reef points? I have always tied it down as well. With our strong winds I have been hesitant to do other wise. In reading articles on reeefing a main they with a jiffy system they do not mention the tie down. Corky

In a word Yes

Yes, I do but make sure you untie them before you release the ends or you will rip your sail.

Tie the main down??

Well the main will be tied down when you reef but I guess you are talking about tying up the excess sail by using the cringels (two on a standard 260 Doyle sail set up). You should never never tie these with rope no matter how fine it is. Always use bungey cord for it will give when you get bigger gust of wind other wise you will tear out the eyelets.

No!

If for some reason you reef slips those babys aren't made for that kind stress and may do serious damage. We put up our retractable lazy jack to corral the excess main.
