My '83 Catalina 30 has its jib hanked on to the forestay. I can have this changed to a foil roller furler for $1,500.00. Which is better performance-wise? Thank you

Farm,

I had a hank-on jib on an earlier boat.

Did you ever notice a lot of times when you needed to take it down quickly, the seas & winds were probably up or, you found yourself in tight conditions and/or skinny water?

Remember how many times it took 2 people one to lower and one to manhandle the flogging sail?
Also, remember how many times the deck was wet & slippery.

If you answered "YES" to any of these questions..................guess what?

You've found that the correct choice would be furler, furler, furler.

Yep, for ease of use, furler.
You can upgrade their performance some by adding a foam luff. It'll help with sail shape when reefed.

Neglected to mention: my hanked on jib is attached to a furler, it just isn't a foil furler so I can furl the jib, but I think a foil like a CGI would furl more easily and efficiently.
