Have any of you H-26 or H-260 owners installed Jib block tracks on your foredeck? How did you determine the placement of these tracks? Did you use backing plates? If so - how did you install these on the underside of the deck? Second question - have any of you purchased and/or made up a traveller for the H-26 or H-260? I'm not at all certain just how such a device would be mounted in the cockpit. Thanks all! Tom Grass Grasshopper II H-26 #174

traveller and jib tracks

I have had both professionally installed. I race my boat. I recommend a traveller even though you can't get an incredibly long one on the cockpit floor. I believe it's worth doing. I had jib tracks installed, but the better benefit I would suggest is a short sheet on each side coming off turning blocks on shroud u-bolts on rub rail and coming back to the stern on spring loaded turning blocks attached to seat stanchions and long enough to go to winches. On a reach it gives the jib a much rounder shape rather than a sharp pull inwards. I seem to set the jib track pretty close to Hunter's set spot for pointing, but am still trying to figure it out.

Track and traveler

I'm planning on adding a genoa track on the hull/deck joint from the stern rail upto a point about one foot forward of the cockpit. Based on Nelson's comments, I might run it almost to the shroud attachments. My purpose is to get better sail shape on different points of sail from a drifter added to the sail inventory this past season. I have the spring loaded blocks attached to the stern rails, and they provide good sail shape close hauled, but moving the blocks forward would be optimal off the wind (I experimented holding it by hand). As far as a traveler on the floor, the limitted range isn't worth it to me (I cruise much more than race). I have considered adding an attachment point for a second main sheet out board that would allow me to pull the mast windward for the same effect. In a pinch, I manually pull it over (an advantage of having a small boat) and you do pick up a few degrees pointing to windward. Fair winds, Tom
