jib size

I have a Hunter 260. In conjunction with switching to a roller furling jib, I would like to increase the size of my headsail, perhaps up to a 130. It is my sense that the location of the shrouds on the 260 will serve to limit the new size of my headsail. I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences as to maximum size of headsail on a 260.

The shrouds, BR rig and the positon of the fairleads on the upper deck and close to the shrouds restrict the size of the jib. it is possible to increase the size of the jib but you will need to make quite a few other changes to get the advantage of the bigger sail including repositioning the fairleads.

Hunters 260 sail plan are mainsail focused and the rigging is not set for a 130 or genny.

The modern design concentrates power in the mainsail with a jib for stability and balance. To change the configuration would require extensive modifications. I understand the 260s are water ballasted and somewhat tender so to significantly enlage the headsail area may induce unwanted sailing characteristics.

having been a dealer for the water ballast boats, it's not a good idea to try to increase the size of the sail area on them. They are indeed tender enough as is.

A better suggestion is to invest in a set of better quality sails than those supplied as original equipment, and add some additional trimming hardware if needed to get the best sail shaping.
