I have a 2005 hunter 33 and the jib sheets, i was told by the prior owner that the sheets are run between the shrouds, to the outside blocks and then back to the rear winchs. i see that there are also blocks on a track that are on the cabin roof with what seems to be provision to run them unter the dodger to the forward winchs.
Several guys at the docks say that through the shouds is WRONG, but they are not Hunter owners
Any comments?

I have two sets of genoa tracks on my 35.5. One set behind the shrouds on the deck. These are for headsails larger than 110%and the sheets lead outside the shrouds to the primaries on the coaming. The other set are cabin top mounted for my #3 or any smaller headsail. These sheats are routed inside the shrouds and then to the cabin top winches. The newer version Hunter 33 has its chainplates mounted at the gunwale making it unreasonable to carry a genoa larger than 110%. Sheeting for the stock 110 is done inside the shrouds which makes a good sheeting angle for the boat.

Alan, I just bought the same model. Everyone that I have seen runs the sheets between the shrouds and I beleive that is correct regardless if you use the inside or outside blocks.

Most people with this boat run the sheets on the outside, though I am now convinced that the inside blocks provide much better pointing, particularly in winds over 12 knots or so.

Have you tried both sets of blocks and what is your finding?

I just came back from an outing with a profrssional captain who is in the process of getting me upgraded from my Prindle 18 habits to what i need on the Hunter33].
We deturmined that if you run the sheets outside and that to the outside block you are rendering the block placement useless as the sheeet is bent around the outside shroud, and all you are doing is setting up a chafing situation. If you run it inside of the inside shoud, your jib hangs up on the spreader.
We tried to determine what the blocks on the cabin roof are useful for and his sugession is that they may be useful for a storm sale, but he was doubtful.

Just came back from the Marina Del Rey Hunter Rendovous(?) and got some good advice from one of the Mavens there. He said the cabin mounted blocks are better for when your close hauled, but you have to lead the sheets thru the dodger to the forward winchs. They set up the deck blocks for so that you can lead the sheets back to the back winchs for easier singlehanding, etc. Also better on broad reaches.
This afternoon we went out with the sheet rigged out to the deck blocks and back to the rear winchs, we than took the lazy sheet and moved it over and rigged it to the "inside blocks and forward winchs. We than started going from one sheet to the other, you can really see and feel the difference.
I had visions of going to see ewith four sheets on my jib for a brief moment. The only trouble with the inside track is there are a lot of lines using the same winch.
I have a feeling that only the racers with take this futher.
