Captain John Edwards

Hey I got a response from Hunter

As promised, I did write to Hunter and their customer serve rep wrote back that it is their practice to use one continous line and knot it in the middle. However, I am of a unamious mind to do the same but would be open to the two line method-maybe. So who one?

I don't get it...

I can understand not using the snap shackle method due to safety reasons, but what's the big whoop over one line or two? Either is fine with the only difference being that after a full season using the looped method the loop is usually too tight to untie and needs to be cut off, unless you feel like futzing with it for half an hour or so with a spike. With the two-line bowline method you just untie them. With only two real safe choices this should be a no-brainer...Do whatever floatsyerboat! There is no wrong answer here. Cheers, Bob

try a clove hitch

The picture from the McGregor manual of the single line sheet attached to the jib clew employs what I beleive is called a lark's head or cow hitch knot. I think a clove hitch is a better knot as it is probably less prone to slippage. Further, the clove hitch should be easier to untie at the end of the season.
