Jib sheet layout.

I have an early water ballast 26 which I race in PHRF. It has 100% jib which seems adequate in this area. The boat has two Lewmar 36 winches but the jib sheet is rigged thru captured jam cleats which are next to the winches and do not permit the winches to be used. This seems a very strange layout and I wondered if others had found this and applied a correction.

I mounted cam cleats on the bulkhead

They are tilted to the right (exit) side of each winch maybe a couple inches down from the top. They are raised and angled down. Sometimes the sheet goes around the winch to the cleat and sometimes directly to the cleat. They were a required addition to my boat. Bill, check the archives and you'll find ideas and photos. horn cleats

My '97 h26 came with horn cleats mounted inboard of the winches. Following the advice of others, I replaced the horn cleats with PX Powercleats. Can't use the winch for the jib sheets anymore (but rarely needed to anyway) and now the jib trim can be adjusted easily from where I sit.
