Jib sail having two size luff tape!

A couple of years ago I bought a new to me jib sail from Bacon Sails, great shape good sail.
Since then my old Hyde furling system has finally bit the dust, I just bought a new Harken
furler, Mark IV, alas the foils are a size 6 luff and the sail is a 10 luff, but when I was really
looking at the sail I noticed a second luff cord sewn just below the 10 cord, has anybody else
seen this. And how do I utilize it, 1: fold it over, 2: cut off the size 10 cord... Any ideas?

I assume you are saying you bought a used sail from Bacons? There is two luff ropes sewn into one luff tape, or are there two luff tapes sewn on the sail?

Seems odd. The luff tape sandwiches the sail cloth so if they just sewed the tape on one side of the sail it might not be the same strength. But talk to a sailmaker to get a suggestion, changing the luff tape is not a big deal.

my guess is that original owner needed 1 size luff tape, 2nd owner added a different size luff tape. i agree fully: 'changing the luff tape is no big deal...' but though i'm on my second professional SAailrite sewing machine i would not attempt this job myself. get a pro to do it and ask if s/he sees any harm in just trimming off the old luff and putting the new tape on fresh fabric -- without messing up the head or tack .
