Hi all, My 212 came with the jib pre-rigged without the 2:1 blocks attatched to the sail "O" ring (per the manual.) Does anyone else rig their jib sheets this way? If not, how did you connect the blocks to the "O" ring on the jib? Also, is their a real advantage to having the 2:1 pull? It would be nice for the easier control, but I've been making due in 10 -15 winds without. Thanks in Advance!

2:1 sheets

Having a 2:1 purchase has two advantages: less effort in higher winds and finer control while trimming. On the other hand, there's more line to pull in when tacking and the added weight of the line and blocks on the clew (the "O" ring) mess up the sail shape in very light airs. If you're making do without them, then you can continue that way. The only time when NOT having the 2:1 purchase might be a problem is in heavier air. If you get hit with 25kt gust and need to dump the jib in a hurry, you might have trouble without the 2:1.

Not 212

I regularly sail a Sabre 28 and crew on Lightnings in races on the Potomac. The Lightnings I sail on are about evenly divided between 1:1 and 2:1 jib sheets. For the 2:1 boats, a variety of techniques were used to connect the blocks to the clew. Some simply used a short bit of line to tie to the clew (with bowlines). Others used small D shackles. Others used blocks with integral shackles. Others used snap clips. There's no "right" answer here...
