We were out last week in high winds and when we pulled the jib in and it would not wrap the last few feet. I pulled the jib in and out and it still would not wrap all the way. Each time I ran out of line before it fully wrapped. Nothing looked like it was tangled above or below. The furler is a CDI and we have not had any problem in the past. Any thoughts on how to fix?

I have had similar problems with the Jib in strong winds. It seems to catch the wind no matter what when furling it. The best thing is to wrap it as tight as you can when finished sailing. Upon return to the dock/mooring disconnect the sheets and rewrap the jib by hand. Next time out in moderate wind it should be fine.

When the jib is loaded ie heavy wind, it wraps tighter, more truns on the foil. If you don't have extra wraps on the drum you will run out of line before the jib is fully wound up, typically at the most inconvient time. Pull the sheets and add a few drum wraps.

Steve, I am suprise you ask this question, When the jib is full in take the end of your jib line off all of the rollers to the drum and hand feed one or two or three turns around the drum , then reput the line back through all of your rollers to the cockpit. The average open jib,s drum, should have three or four rwaps on the drum. so you have enough overlap. its easy when know how, I hope this information works out for you Frederick P Boothbay ME.

Adding or releasing wraps on th furling drum
can be done at the drum (without detaching sheets etc) with the fuling line with the sail fully extended. It is a very brave manouver under some circumstances and the drum should be properly filled with line before you set out if possible.
