I'm just wondering if anyone has installed jib lead tracks on the side decks of an Oday 26. Our jib leads are permanently mounted athwartships. Obviously, this doesn't give us many options for trimming the 110% jib. There are tracks mounted on the coamings, but we do not have enough sail to use them. I'm not sure if those were original or installed by the previous owner. Anyway, if you have done this project before, can you give me a few tips? Primarily, should the track be mounted parallel to the keel or slightly angled? Also, what size length of track do you recommend? Thanks for the help.

The tracks along the cockpit coamings are for the optional Genoa Jib or spinnaker. It should not be too hard to replace the fixed location jib blocks with track-mounted adjustable lead blocks, they may have been a factory option when the boat was new. As others will probably tell you, give Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine a call, or better yet...take a ride up to Assonet, MA some Saturday morning to visit him! He will have a good idea of how to go about making the change to the jib leads, he used to manage the parts dept. at O'DAY before they closed in 1989. He has a web site, but a phone call or Saturday morning visit will usually get faster results.

I mounted harken cars on my 25. I mounted the track straight, not angled and split the distance between the coach and toe rails. Unfortunately the forward coaming prevents mounting a longer track so I settled to track between the coaming and the original fixed location which is around 30 inches. No pictures of the install. I do use them and it does help on different points of sail. I also mounted cross deck blocks to run the jib sheet to the windward winch. Better for singlehanding than having to go to the low side to adjust the jib.

I would have to agreee with sunbird calling Rudy is the best way to get him ,he has the knowledge and the stuff.I have been renovating my 26 ft anniversary edition for 5 /6 years and Rudy has always been very helpful with all my projects
