In preparing to haul out, I tried to take the jib on a 1995 Hunter 336 down. Even though I slacked the jib halyard and put some real downward pressure on the luff, it wouldn't budge. I examined the head of the jib where the halyard comes out of the mast. Looks clear and free. Threre's a standard Profurl furling system in place which also works fine. I can't imagine what's going on. We bought the boat this season with the rigging up so no prior experience. Any suggestions (other than keep sailing all winter)? Thanks!

One choice.

You will have to go up there or send someone up. I guess that is two choices. Are you certain the halyard has not wrapped? I had something very like that happen this spring when I got the swivel stuck at the top. I had tried to clean the furler by running the swivel up with a rag attached. A line holding the rag got above the furler extrusion, the raised part that keeps the swivel from going any farther. Then it tightened there. I had a strong messenger line that would not pull that swivel back down. No choice but to send up a yard hand and cut it loose.
