I have a H26 and the sheaves located at the base of the mast for the main and jib halyards are located in a side-by-side configuration and made of plastic. There appears to have been some sort of spacer between the two sheaves since they are extremely loose and the lines constantly jump from one sheave to the other or completely off.

How do you replace the sheaves and what kind of spacer was between them? I think I would like to go with metal in lieu of plastic but since the originals have lasted this long I would not be to reluctant to stick with the original game plan.

If your h26 is like mine, the deck plate for the mast base has 3or4 holes on each side. Just get a block and attach to that (and abandone the funky setup they have provided). I have a double block on each side for main halyard, two reefing lines for the main and the outhaul

GREAT!!!
I am thinking of putting a block at the same point of the existing sheaves. I am looking for a block that will fit the sheave shaft. My problem is: How do I get the sheaves and shaft out? Do you know?

Blocks at the base of our '04 260 but no sheaves, just a cutout and insert where the line exits the mast about 5' up from the base. The blocks at the top for the jib and spinnaker where plastic junk that shattered from age and load. Ck on those every now and then or just replace them if they are substandard like mine where.

I'd would post a pic but, I'm sorry to say I'm soaking up the sun in Maui for a couple of weeks.

MAUI FOR A COUPLE WEEKS! That's outrageous. Been there, it was awe inspiring watching the sunrise on Haleakala, driving the Hana hwy and windsurfing at Hookipa(or sailing just about anywhere). Have fun and go sailing while you're there. It's a whole different realm from offshore. My only regret was not taking a Helicopter trip through the mountains. Do it.

A Hui Hou Kakou Aloha, Mike

LC, Hunter changed that design and I can see why. Just go with blocks at the mast base and your problem will be history. And now I call a forum meeting in Maui to discuss these issues live:).

Good luck, Mike

Aloha. Trust me LastChance, didn't sail the h26 over here. It wouldn't begin to handle the quanity of beer needed. So, the block thing. Looks like you are already using one for something. Any line going up can use another block (or double). The setup for the centerboard line your kinda stuck with.

Did you sail or fly to Maui?

I am attaching some pics I got today between rain storms
My '93 23.5 has a very similar setup. It has a stainless steel spacer between the lines. I too have been wondering how to access these sheaves. The shaft on mine appears to be receded some and I would like to check it out just to make sure, or repair. I was considering cutting a hole in the headliner below, but may just add a couple of blocks to the mast base as was suggested here.
