So I have been prepping to pull my boat and put it on the trailer. I keep the trailer in a gatted lot near my boat.

I had bungee tied the gin pole and baby stays to my trailer. Went to check on the trailer and my pole and baby stays are gone.

Arrrrg.... now I have to build new ones before Tuesday.

Man: that's a pretty specific part for someone to steal. Sorry about that!

A number of years ago, someone stole one of the components of our bimini frame, a large hoop of stainless tubing (big "C" shape), from our boat as it sat in the slip. I thought to myself: "really? you stole a piece of stainless steel tubing that was custom made for the boat?". Our only theft in 16 years, though.

I'm guessing it was either kids messing about or someone hoping to get a few bucks at the scrap yard.

I've heard that there have been several thefts of batteries (probably from power boats) in our marina over the last couple of years. They tracked it down to a guy living nearby who was a drug addict. Apparently he just wanted to score some quick cash. Several people have put up internet-connected cameras on their boats, in addition to the marina's security cameras, but there's a restaurant/bar onsite, so they can't really control access to the public.

I got a start on building a new gin-pole

I didn't get a pic of the final product but here are the parts you need... A 1" fence rail (chain link) from Lowes (cut it to 111", and end cap, two wire cable thimbles, four wire nuts, 3' of 1/4" cable. Tools needed... a hack saw, a drill w/ 5/16 bit and an pliers or wrench.

Total cost... $38

I bet that up was the reason for the theft....or maybe they were just jerks (have you pissed off any boat neighbors recently?).

That sucks.
Have you tried raising the mast without the pole? I found I can on mine and it's much quicker than rigging and de-rigging each time.

Made a new pole yesterday. I've done it before so it did not take very long.

Whatever floats your boat... ;)
Beer on the boat...way easier than cutting limes for my Tanqueray and tonic.

Always wanted to be able to drink “scotch, neat”....but cannot stomach the stuff...even a 15-year old Macallan ☹

Oh well.

Add two drops of water. There is some very cool equilibrium chemistry to explain why but... it really does change the taste. Or add an ice cube.
