I am about to travel to look at a Javelin that is for sale. I am 67 years of age anf before age sets in, I want to learn to sail. My only experience has been with a power boat, canoe and kayak. BUT! I want to sail most of all. Before I go to travel to inspect this sail boat. I would like to see what it looks like and get to talk to a few owners of one. Can anyone furnish me photos and educate me about what I should look for or know about the javelin. Thank you,

there are two models, the older boat has no hull liner, seats bonded to the hull and large opening under the forward deck, the newer has a molded hull liner and small hatch in forward bulkhead to get under the deck. a problem may be in the keel being 'cleaned' up of rust over the years and not all there now. keel should weigh 49 lbs. masts are keel stepped unless mod to a deck step tabernacle which makes raising the mast very easy and some may have a furler on the jib and sail slugs on the main sail. javelins are strong boats, mine isn't for sale!

I just purchased mine yesterday and using some special rigging , fixed the drain plug in the rear. I have the double bottom model and know totaly nothing about sailing, I am also 67 and determined to learn. So far I have floated mine today and since it did not sink when I let the keel down, I think I will get to sail before long. I need to know where to find one of the guy wires that is frayed. So look for bottom problems and wire problems. Plus what ever some of these experienced sailers add to your list.

check the javelin posted elswhere in this colume for dr marine.com for all jav parts. don't just replace one, do both sides, and forstay if needed, or you may want to convert to a furling jib using a harken 435 set making the sail and furler system the same length, with a short piece of stay at top, to replace the forestay. but do replace the side stays as a pair.
