Javelin jib and main sheet locations

I have a 1969 Javelin. The jib sheets go from an adjustable block on the side of the coaming to a clean on the centerboard cap. For me, it's in the way, especially with the boards bracing the centerboard against the seat just ahead of it. I was thinking of putting the cleat behind the block on the coaming, with a wood backing.

Also, the main takes up some room, has anyone moved it to the transom?

TIA,

John

I would always use a stainless steel backing. Wood backing will eventually fail.

Thanks Andrew. I've used aluminum or stainless backing plates on different larger boats. The 14 foot Javelin uses wood behind the blocks and cleats and... I have some left over teak pieces that would work and I'm guessing last a while.

Still haven't made the changes, playing around with the boat a bit before I start drilling new holes.
