Where to begin...
Most of you know of my wonderful medical problem so that is where I'll leave it.
Starting Friday May 2nd, a good sailing friend showed up at the marina and helped me get the engine, shaft and strut aligned. It required removing the strut, shims and a bunch of tweaking to get things setup properly. But it got done.
Saturday, morning seven different sailing friends and of course beer under their arms started preparing Java to get into the water. They did what I call wet sanding the entire bottom. Soap and scrubbing and a hour later the bottom was ready. Around noon and several beers latter the bottom painting commenced. Not sure how much paint got on the bottom and each other. Second coat was on by 5pm. One who will remain nameless some how got his bottom painted, we are still trying to figure that one out. One of the guys used to work for the Virginia Department of Transportation, and became the butt of a great joke. His job was to watch the paint dry, just like his old job.
Sunday morning with the high tide, Java was placed back into the water and moved to her slip. Then three of them started scrubbing and cleaning the winter dirt from the topsides. Wow does Java look great.
Monday, Joan and I put the canvas back on and raised the jib. Now we can go sailing.
Chemo starts May 13th, it will be a week on and a week off for three months when they will re-valuate.
Off week I'll be sailing.
So my THANKS to all my friends helping me get the boat ready. There are not enough words (or beer) for the work they did. I know there are sailing friends out there who help a fellow sailor. I just don't have the words to express the gratitude I feel to you all.....
