I met he and Joan a number of years ago and sailed down the bay with them from Cobb Island to the concrete ships at Kiptopeke. So sorry to hear of this;. my prayers go out to the entire family for peace and strength during this time. I also pray, trust and hope that he is comfortable and not suffering.

Sad news... Our prayers go out to Jim and Joan..
Jim visited us on Escape several years ago and we really enjoyed his company, boat talk, and beers. He's been a great help to many people on this site and we'll miss him.

I never met Jim in person, although we came close in Punta Gorda a couple of years ago. There are several of us H356 guys that bought about the same time and have regularly posted here and I feel like all of them are my friends. God bless you Joan and I hope Jim's transition will be peaceful and with dignity.

We will all miss Jim for sure and having met Jim & Joan many years ago when they
were visiting here in south west Florida and on one of our trips heading south from NY
Jim and Joan invited us to stay with them in their beautiful house in Virginia and saved us from the terrible traffic on 95.
And than we were able to take them sailing on seadaddler when they came to Florida with Java and will miss Jim the Javaman.

"The Unknown Shore"

Sometime at eve when the tide is low,
I shall slip my mooring and sail away
With no response to the friendly hail
Of kindred craft in the busy bay.
In the silent hush of the twilight pale
When the night stoops down to embrace the day
And the voices call in the water’s flow….
Sometime at eve when the tide is low
I shall slip my mooring and sail away.

Through the purple shadows that darkly trail
O’er the ebbing tide of the Unknown Sea,
I shall fare me away, with a dip of sail
And a ripple of waters to tell the tale
Of a lonely voyager, sailing away
To Mystic Isles where at anchor lay
The craft of those who have gone before
O’er the Unknown Sea to the Unknown Shore.

A few who have watched me sail away
Will miss my craft from the busy bay;
Some friendly barks that were anchored near,
Some loving souls that my heart held dear,
In silent sorrow will drop a tear—
But I shall have peacefully furled my sail
In moorings sheltered from storm or gale
And greeted friends who have gone before
O’er the Unknown Sea to the Unknown Shore.

Sailors are generous, helpful, giving people who seek to create, fabricate, master, and remain humble before God's creations. I am certain Jim will be sailing...

Bad Obsession;
Thank you for posting the obituary. James R. Seamans passed away at home on Sunday, March 19, 2016 in Fredericksburg, VA.

I first met Jim and Joan as a dealer at Smith Mountain Lake, VA when I sold him the first boat from me. We shared many things and eventually became close friends. Whenever I needed to talk with someone, I called on Jim and came to love this fellow as if he was my older brother. Many times, Jim and Joan wanted to help at boat shows to include Annapolis, Smith Mountain Lake and North Carolina. Eventually I sold JAVA to Jim and Joan and can remember distinctly when he took delivery at Oriental, NC and went north during the winter as a lone wolf freezing his butt off while all other boats went south to warmer weather. I have laughed so much over that during the years. We spoke about boats, family, hobbies and so on.

Jim loved to post about his adventures and work on JAVA on this forum helping many along the way with their boats. I have heard from many over the years whom he had helped them which they appreciated tremendously. He gave a lot to many and made many friends along the way. However, the love of his life was Joan and I know she misses him dearly. I ask that you keep Joan in your prayers.

Jim, all of us will miss you but Happy Sailing my big brother.

May he join God in his kingdom where he will remain at peace through eternity. May He also watch over and protect his family and help ease their pain of loss.

Those of us who know Jim, we should put a few stories about Jim down here. He was always up to something and he was such a fun person to be around!

I don't know how many of you all will be attending his memorial. I will be there.

I am kind of at a loss for words about this whole thing. All I can say that Jim was a great guy and a good friend.

Bad Obsession and I will be representing the Forum at Jim's Memorial Service this weekend. Keep his wife, Joan in your prayers as I know it is a difficult time for her.
