The 393 has a jack stay while most other Beneteau's around this size do not. I d' like to store my inflatable dingy on the fore deck for passages but the stay is in the way. Has anyone removed this stay and if so what if anything happened? I have asked Beneteau but did not get a reply.

I assume you are talking about your baby stay.

I'd leave it. Without it, the mast will pump in heavier conditions. I know of several Oceanus model owners that ADDED a baby stay after a passage to Hawaii.

I have a 393 and, of course, it has the baby stay. Many Beneteaus do. It's there for a reason, so I would not mess with it.

My First 38 has one as well. I've heard of Beneteau owners that have converted their stay to have a lever attachment so they could remove it in times of light weather. If you do convert to a removable version, you need to remember to redeploy it as the weather builds - that happens to me with my running backstays all the time - just as the storm subsides I say "that would have been a great time for the runners!".

Given the dead amidship-ness of my shrouds, I sort of like having an insurance policy for a failing headstay. My hard dinghy fits in the remaining space forward, but it makes anchoring a real headache, since it covers the capstan and locker.
