the poor quality and poor service kind.. In a previous post to you I, indicated the problems I am having with, a less than two year old 29090-2000 compact toilet on my 1999 Catalina C-380. I have replace the top valve gasket, which was so deteriorated, that it was falling apart in my hands. That seems to fix my flush problems. However I get standing water in the bowl after each use. From what I can tell it is coming from the discharge side. I sent the defective top valve gasket back with a letter, explaining my two year problems with the toilet. After 3 weeks, and no response, I called the service department. He claim (believe it is a one man service dept.) that he never got my letter. He immediately became obnoxious and defensive, claiming that the toilet was installed incorrectly, without asking for any details. He shouted that he has over 100 calls a day and asked me what I wanted. At that point I just hung up. Two weeks later I got a Joker valve in the mail. Installed the valve. However I still have standing water in the bowel. This toilet did work, with no problems, for the first two months. Do you have any ideas? I am about to rip the whole unit out and send it back to the president of Jabsco.

Possible solution for a Jabsco 29090- 2000

Having tired of replacing parts on my Jabsco 29090-2000 over a two year period. I concluded that the solution was to replace the the entire unit every two years. The unit comes on sale for about $100.00 at West Marine fairly regulary.I consider it a good investment and a major a aggravation reliever. It's a cheap head don't expect quality performance.

I thought it was only me ..............

that was having problems with my two year old Jabsco head. I have replaced the rubber valve plate twice so far and it leaks more often than not. After listening to your experience with after sales service, it may be easier to rip it out and go with another make of head. Regards, s/v Island Hunter

Bryan has the right idea...

I've always considered any toilet that can be replaced for under $125--which is about the price of two rebuild kits for any of 'em to be "disposable." Don't put any money into 'em. They're under warranty for the first year...by the end of the second something has usually failed that isn't in the rebuild kit anyway. That's when you chuck it and buy a new one. Or, you COULD spend a bit more and get a toilet that will last 8-10 years if you rebuild it every 3 years.

Jabsco - not all bad

Jabsco are not all bad - On my 340 I had a problem with a leaking Y valve (which may have been caused by the way it had been fitted) and also a toilet which became very stiff to pump - one e-mail to the UK division of Jabsco brought a query on the part numbers - a new Y valve, pump body and service kit was received within days at no charge - all the original parts were over two years old. I was impressed and pleased with the service - hope you can achieve a similar result!

It's no secret that I've always been partial to...

Raritan toilets. I think they're the best "bang for the buck." And I'm not alone in my opinion. The PH II (and its predecessor the PH) has always been rated the best manual toilet in it's price range (less than $100 more than a "disposable")...the Compact II is the pick of compact litter...and, although it's relatively new on the market (just a few years), I really like the Cricket 'cuz instead of the usual piston cylinder pump next to the bowl, it has a diaphragm pump under the bowl...so moving pump parts to wear out and need regualr rebuilding. Raritan toilets just don't wear out...I've seen 15 yr old PH IIs that have never been rebuilt...still working. You can occasionally get a defective part--you can with any piece of equipment, but 99% of problems with 'em are either a bad installaton or something the boat owner could easily fix if he'd bother to read the manual. And Raritan stands behind their equipment better than any other mfr...even beyond the warranty period when it's justified. Check out their toilets on their website: http://www.raritaneng.com Shop WM, B/US, Defender for the best price.
