Jabsco Toilet

I recently replaced the jabsco toilet's pumping assembly on my Cat 30. Before closing the boat up after a sail, I close the seacock, and make sure the switch on the pump is showing dry pumping and that any water in the bowl has been pumped out. A few days later when I return to the boat I find that the water level in the bowl is close to the top. I'm sure I am doing something that is allowing this water to back up into the bowl. The holding tank I'm almost positive is not full to capacity. Any ideas? Thanks, Steven

go to the mother load

if it were me, i'd call the guys at jabsco first. they are very helpful and will probably either solve the problem or point you in the right direction. if all else fails, get a large capacity porta-potti and seal off the thru-hulls. two less holes can't be bad.

Vent hose Clogged?

I have an 88 Catalina 30 TRBS with wing-keel with the Jabsco toilet, and whereas I do get a little back-up in the toilet (just filling up the bottom hole area -- maybe about 2-3" max), it is never more than that, regardless of the holding tank volume. Given the height of the toilet bowl versus the holding tank, it can't be normal seepage -- as water seeks its on level, not more than... So, unless both the sea-cock AND the toilet 'dry bowl' switch are leaking (both are unlikely), then ... Perhaps the holding tank vent line is clogged, or pinched and is creating pressure within the tank, which increases with the heat in the cabin during the week while all closed-up, pushing the fluid back into the toilet.
